WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture is an ancient healing modality of Chinese Medicine that focuses on restoring balance to the body. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine believe that imbalances in the body cause disease and illness. We use hair thin needles to stimulate points on our body to remove blocks and restore balance. Acupuncture is useful in relaxing muscles, increasing blood flow, decreasing inflammation, reactivating weak muscles, and supporting our immune system, just to name a few. Acupuncture focuses on many aspects to promote a healthy life. Most acupuncturists use more than needles to treat our patients. We also discuss lifestyle, nutrition, exercise and how to incorporate relaxation into our lives.
HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?
Acupuncture communicates with the qi (chee) and blood in our body to restore balance. Qi is the energy within us, and flows through the body in streams called meridians. Imbalances block qi and blood, similar to a kink in a hose. When blocks occur, blood and qi cannot flow freely, causing an illness or pain. Qi can be regulated and built up in many ways, such as diet, exercise, acupuncture, herbal prescriptions, sleep, meditation and more.
Acupuncture looks at the body as a whole being, or as I like to say the “big picture.” Traditional Chinese Medicine believes all things are connected and therefore it is important to treat all aspects of the body; physical, emotional and mental. In acupuncture we start with the big picture and work our way through the body’s systems to find where the imbalance is. This allows us to tailor treatments specific to each individual. For anyone who would like to learn more about the intricacies of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine I would be happy to explain more in our treatments
